TALLINN

Due to the nature of often appearing on itineraries featuring global headline cities such as Stockholm, Helsinki and St. Petersburg, Tallinn to the newcomer may seem like one of those add-in ports- one that people are happy to go to, but may not have been the primarily reason for choosing that specific cruise.

This line of thinking is immediately challenged upon visiting this stunning gem of the region, as time and time again, people return from a day surrounded by Tallinn’s old world charms to say that it was one of the unexpected highlights of their cruise.

Located on the central northern coastline of Estonia, this medieval city filled with cobblestone streets, public squares, markets and churches, with much of the architecture dating back to the 13th to 15th centuries. The Old Town itself has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cruise ships arrive into the port area located approximately 1 mile /1.5km from the Old Town. Whilst upon most recent visits there hasn’t been any real port shuttle service, it is a pleasant walk, and you can also take taxis from the pier. Hop On/Off buses do come near the pier too, but just note that they don’t go directly into the central Old Town area.
