PUERTO CHACABUCO
Puerto Chacabuco is a small town nestled in the Chilean fjords. It has a population of just 1200 people, and it is a launch point into Northern Chilean Patagonia.
Puerto Chacabuco itself has a handful of supermarkets and a couple restaurants. There is a small local park and beautiful mountain views, but it won’t take you long to walk through the town. (Tip: be cautious of the local dogs!)
For more to do and see, head to Puerto Aysen, which is 9mi/14km away. You’ll find stunning landscapes, a small handicraft museum, and plenty of places to shop, eat, and drink.
Another option is to continue through the Rio Simpson National Reserve to Coyhaique, which is 48mi/77km away from the port. Coyhaique is the largest city in Northern Chilean Patagonia with a population of 60,000 people. You’ll find eateries, shops, a regional museum, and tourist centers providing information on the greater region.
If you want to embrace nature, there are plenty of options ranging from horseback riding to kayaking to flyfishing. We highly recommend booking an organized tour ahead of time to ensure you can eke the most of your port time in Puerto Chacubuco.
