KONA, HAWAII

Kailua-Kona is the Big Island’s classic cruise stop—sunny, scenic, and easy to explore right from the moment you arrive. Unlike Hilo, ships anchor offshore here, so you’ll take a short tender ride into town, arriving right in the heart of Kona’s lively waterfront.

Once ashore, everything is within walking distance. Aliʻi Drive runs along the coast and is lined with shops, restaurants, and historic sites, making it easy to fill a few hours without needing transportation. You can visit landmarks like Hulihe‘e Palace, relax by the water at Kamakahonu Beach, or grab a bite with an ocean view just steps from the tender pier.

Kona is also a great base for excursions. Popular options include snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Kealakekua Bay, coffee farm tours in the nearby hills, or heading out to explore more of the island’s volcanic landscapes.

With its dry, sunny weather and laid-back atmosphere, Kona is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ports in Hawaii—whether you plan a full day of activities or just take it slow along the waterfront.
