ISLA ROBINSON CRUSOE

Robinson Crusoe is one of three volcanic islands in the Juan Fernadez archipelago, which is situated 410mi/660km off the coast of Chile. It’s remote locale and rugged, mountainous terrain make it an exciting travel destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.

Cruise ships visiting Robinson Crusoe usually tender into the capital city of the island, San Juan Bautista. San Juan Bautista has a population of just 700 people, and the small town has a rustic charm with just a handful of restaurants and bars.  The main economic activity in San Juan Bautista is lobster trapping. So be sure to try some when visiting!

The primary attraction in this port of call is to explore the many hiking trails in the Archipelago Juan Fernández National Park. Popular hikes to consider are Plazaleta el Yunque and Salspuedes. There is a national park fee of 8000 Chilean pesos//$10USD. Both currencies are accepted, but it’s cash only, so be sure to plan accordingly.
